Artist Statement
In my work, I explore the intricate relationship between humanity and the Earth, particularly in the context of the Anthropocene—the geological era defined by human influence. Fascinated by the evolving materials on our planet, like Plastiglomerates, where plastics fuse with natural sediments to form new types of rock, I delve into the ways our actions have permanently modified the Earth's surface.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Indian Matkas—humble, rounded pots used to store and purify water, I create vessels that serve as a poignant metaphor for the Earth itself. Each mark, scratch, and groove on these pots symbolize the lasting impact we have on our environment. The process of marking, tearing, and healing the clay mirrors the way waste alters our world.
My work is a dialogue between tradition and modernity, inviting reflection on the legacies we leave behind. They challenge us to appreciate the beauty and complexity in the transformation of everyday materials and our environmental interactions, inviting people to reflect deeply and to reconsider their relationship with nature.
