Who hasn’t experienced wanting something so much... that it ends up 'trapped in their head'?
"Stuck in My Head" is an illustrated children's story that addresses the topic of obsessions or anxiety in kids. It was born from my need for a resource to help my children and others understand what happens in our brains. The story also aims to teach patience and the importance of waiting for our desires.
It’s a children's book, but without a doubt, it reflects that feeling when 'something' takes over our minds, both children and adults.
The project involves completing the text and illustrations for a children's book, which will be presented as a proposal to a publisher. This work concludes my year-long exploration in a master's program, during which I sought and learned various methods to develop my style.
The story goes like this: The protagonist wants a toy so badly that it "gets" stuck in his head, making it grow and leaving less and less space for "other things." After trying various ways to get it out, he learns it's not about eliminating the idea but rather allowing it to occupy its rightful place and size.
The biggest challenge of creating the book was making the inner space of the head, experimenting with many techniques to ensure it didn't come across as eerie but still conveyed the idea. The result of the work is a full storyboard-style proposal created digitally, with some final images created hand-drawn illustrations to be presented.
