Artist Statement

I am an interdisciplinary artist working across painting, collage, photography and installation. My work explores my own experience of femininity as something colourful, excessive, contradictory, sensual and constantly shifting.

I work intuitively, often beginning with a painting, image, colour or texture and allowing it to become the starting point for something else. I cut, layer, photograph, project and digitally reconstruct my own work alongside found imagery, continually reworking what I have made. Collage has become more than a way of making images for me; it has become a way of thinking. I enjoy bringing things together that might not naturally belong together and seeing what happens when they overlap, disrupt or transform one another.

I am drawn to colour, texture, the body and visual excess, but also to moments of darkness, softness and uncertainty. I don't try to define what femininity is, or speak for everyone. Instead, I use my own experiences and feelings as a starting point, exploring what femininity looks and feels like to me.

More recently, my practice has begun to move beyond the flat image into physical and immersive spaces. I am interested in creating work that people can move around, look into and experience, rather than simply view from a distance.
For me, making is a way of figuring things out. I don't always know what I am trying to say when I begin, but through making, layering and reworking, I often discover it along the way.
