My artistic practice focuses on a sculptural approach to ceramics. At the heart of my work is an exploration of the way in which form interacts with human presence. My ceramic forms are often arranged as installations, creating spaces within which these forms are reconsidered and then transformed, acquiring new meanings. My forms draw inspiration from nature, history, and everyday material reality. Through the process of artistic development, the forms drawn from the real world move subtly away from their original references towards a more poetic interpretation. In this way, my work exists somewhere between the real and the transcendent; the recognisable and the ambiguous. The spaces I create are not imaginary but are deeply rooted in reality. Yet, through the clarity of the forms and the removal of superfluous characteristics, the familiar and the unfamiliar coexist, creating a condition that invites the viewer to observe, recognise, and ultimately search for the essence of what we perceive as real.

In my MA work, I create an environment in which different worlds coexist. Architectural elements, in this instance the chimneys of Bath, function as archetypes of objective reality, while colourful, expressionistic, and abstract ceramic forms, inspired by a mosaic in a tenth-century Byzantine church, establish another, superimposed reality. The viewer is positioned between these two realities, while existence itself may perhaps be located in the porcelain form, which is on the verge of dissolving, reverently resting upon the objective reality above the metaphysical, otherworldly terrain.
