Jonti Allinson-Epps is a multidisciplinary artist with an interest in labour, rurality, intimacy and lived experience. His practice is often based upon being in certain situations - both orchestrated and spontaneous - that blur the boundary between what might be considered heteronormative and queer. Allinson-Epps’ interest in the body extends to questions within philosophy, politics, and identity construction, exploring how the body functions as a site of shared and individual meaning.

The artist engages with moving image, printmaking, and spatial installation, and through note-taking and writing, his primary medium becomes the conditions in which the material work is made. Through slow observation of settings and people, the artist’s film and writing works attempt to disambiguate questions of who we are and where we belong as individuals in shared spaces and communities. Allinson-Epps’ work considers the role of the individual in understanding how we relate to others.

Through acts of looking, waiting, searching, and finding, Jonti’s practice embraces solitude as a means of unpicking his initial lines of enquiry, hoping answers will emerge gradually through process itself. He works with the phenomenology of place, seeking to locate both personal and shared narratives within the practical contexts of his chosen materials.
