The main focus of my practice can be summarised as to how I can explore female sexuality, the body and symbolism through the making process? Often Utilising heavily symbolic objects to convey themes portrayed, I branch out my practice into a number of mediums often concluding in pieces that have symbolic significance within the practices featured. As of recent years I have concentrated on oil-painting, ceramics, embroidery and woodworking. The persistent visual appearance of my work can be attributed directly to historical depictions of the female form and the ever changing beauty standards that can be observed. My interpretations of the body are often drawn from this source however the appearance of these figures often mirrors surrealism with the rendering devolving into warped, uncanny portraits. I consistently strive to convey a sense of unease within my work and involve the audience’s senses to participate, relying on both the visual and aroma to immerse the audience into the story I intend to manufacture. The choice to engage with the audience through an inclusion of symbolism is based on my personal preference to convey connection within my work to various significant sources. I often repeatedly feature pertinent objects (figs, pomegranates, shells, flowers) to create a connection between the source and my work, in addition to producing a visual tie between my own work .
