Artist Statement

This project is aimed at developing a portfolio for graphic design in film. To achieve this, I focused specifically on an imaginary sequel to the 1990s cult classic: Hocus Pocus, which follows the story of a “villainous trio of witches” called the Sanderson Sisters (the R-rated fantasy sequel for which would observe the comically sinister witches in their present-day capacity as owners of a secret, luxury, occult club).

Creating the design assets involved building a suite of bespoke wallpaper designs, ingredient labels, logo, and other collateral (some of which have the potential to be licensed out to the real world at a later date) whilst keeping to the brand’s established key words: luxury, irreverent, strange.

The main audience for the project is, naturally, viewers and fans of the film as well as the actors themselves (for the job of a graphic designer in film is to facilitate the suspension of disbelief for both audience and actor).

For the purposes of the installation, I’ve also adapted two songs from the film – sampling witchy sounds and recording my own vocals for a more immersive experience into their spooky, magical club.
