I’m an illustrator specialising in narrative and storytelling. During the Visual Communication MA, I have produced work encompassing the 1892 short story The Yellow Wallpaper. With a keen interest in exploring the oppression of women’s mental health, my project expands across picture book illustrations and a bespoke wallpaper design. My objectives are to manipulate pattern to present a narrative amongst repeating natural forms. Alongside this, I consider nature’s significance in representing women. With an ability to both heal and poison; medicinal and poisonous plants mirror the chaos of nurturing and toxic labels, capturing a warped portrayal of women’s mental illness, particularly in 1800 and still prevalent today.
